Can You Pump Directly Into Mason Jars?

At Mason Bottle, we are constantly working to find ways to make life simpler and safer for your family. In fact, what Mason Bottle families tell us they love most about using mason jars is that you are able to store, heat, and feed breastmilk all from the same jar!

While there’s no official adapter currently on the market that supports direct pumping into regular mouth jars, there are still safer—and smarter—ways to use Mason jars in your feeding routine.

Not only does it simplify the feeding process but still allows you to promote a healthy economy, environment, and most importantly a healthy life for your little one!

Even if you can’t pump directly into them, mason jars are still one of the healthiest, most eco-conscious ways to store breastmilk.

Here’s why:

  • No plastic leaching: Glass is naturally free of BPA, BPS, phthalates, and other hormone-disrupting chemicals found in many plastics.
  • No microplastics: Unlike single-use storage bags or plastic bottles, glass doesn’t degrade or release microscopic particles into your milk.
  • One container for everything: With Mason jars, you can store, warm, and feed—all from the same vessel. That means fewer dirty dishes, fewer spills, and a whole lot less waste.

So What About Pumping Directly Into a Jar?

While we don’t currently sell a direct pump-to-jar adapter, some parents have found workarounds using third-party products like the Nanobébé Breast Pump Adapter (Gen 1) or the Maymom Adapter. These adapters can work with standard-size breast pumps (like Spectra, Medela, Lansinoh, and Ameda) and attach to regular-mouth mason jars using a standard metal ring. Important Note: These products are not made or endorsed by Mason Bottle. If you choose to use one, always test carefully for fit and stability before relying on it for pumping.

The Best Practice (For Now)

Until there’s a universal, secure adapter available, we recommend the following workflow:

  • Pump into your regular plastic pump bottles
  • Transfer into a clean mason jar for storage
  • When ready, warm and feed right from the same jar

This method still eliminates single-use plastics and helps you avoid the risks associated with storing milk in plastic for extended periods.

Less Waste. More Peace of Mind.

Every transfer you eliminate reduces the chance of spilled milk—and lost effort. By using mason jars for breastmilk storage, you’re choosing a safer and healthier path for your baby and a more sustainable one for the planet.

Stay tuned, our team is always exploring safe, high-quality options to make your feeding routine even easier. 💚

I’m planning to pump directly into my mason jars and wondering what bras might work to support the weight of the glass jars for handfree pumping?

The Medela adapter for Nanobébé bottles works with regular mouth mason jars! I just pumped twice today using them!

This makes me so happy! I am going back to work and pumping into plastic bottles felt like it went against the idea of using glass bottles. I am super excited to give this a try. Thank you posting this.

How would this be possible with Medela sonata? This would be amazing, if possible!
