The CDC recommends storing breastmilk in clearly labeled bags or containers with tight fitting lids. You can see the full list of CDC recommendations and proper storage and heating procedures here.
Mason Bottle meets all of the criteria set forth by the CDC and storing breast milk in mason jars is not only cleaner than single use plastic bags, it’s better for the environment and more convenient! It’s simple: You take the mason jar out of the fridge (or freezer), heat it in a bowl of warm water, put on a Mason Bottle nipple and serve.
But now, we have made that process even better with our Writable Silicone Mason Jar Lids.
Mason jars are manufactured and sold with metal lids and rings. The rings are notorious for rusting with any bit of moisture and the inside of the metal lid is coated with a plastic polymer. Unlike these metal components, our silicone lid is naturally BPA, BPS and chemical free and doesn’t rust!
(We also have a rust-proof version of the metal rings that is made with plastic and can be used way beyond the bottle stage - find them here).
Our silicone lid and plastic ring are perfect for storage in the fridge or freezer.
The silicone lid has a smooth writable surface that you can write on and easily erase as needed. This feature is perfect for labeling jars with dates and contents and allows them to be used over and over.
You can write and erase two ways:
- Write with a sharpie and remove with a magic eraser.
- Write with a dry erase marker and remove with washcloth or sponge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While our silicone lids are great for breastmilk and food storage, they cannot be used for actual canning or long-term storage.
I find this awesome. I tend to advise moms to make sure they label their collected milk before they even store them in the fridge. And I love that your silicon lid can be labelled and even erasable.
