Jan, you can prevent rusting by wiping excess liquid off the metal when it isn’t in use. If your ring is already rusted, there is no easy fix. However, you can purchase more rings from the grocery store, Walmart, Target, Amazon, really anywhere that sells mason jars.

How long milk can be stored has more to do with the temperature of your freezer than the storage container.
